5 Must-Dos Just Outside of Park City

If you’re visiting Park City during the madness of prime vacation weekends, you may want to skip the crowded downtown scene and explore the surrounding areas. A handful of my favorite restaurants and attractions are just 30 minutes outside of Park City. Hop in the car and skip the lines in town!

FOR BREAKFAST

Head over to Woodland and try the best biscuits in Utah at Woodland Biscuit!  Seriously, I’m from the south and these biscuits are worth drooling over.  Plug it into your GPS… 20 minutes into the trip you might think you are lost, but you are almost there.  It’s literally in the middle of nowhere in an old general store.  Try any of the biscuit sandwiches and a mimosa and you won’t be disappointed.

FOR UTAH WHISKEY

Check out High West at Blue Sky Ranch.  You may have already stopped at the High West Saloon in town, but the distillery offers better views, a FREE distillery tour (about 45 minutes), and a more spacious restaurant and tasting room.  Whiskey aficionado or not, the tour is actually really interesting and walks you through the fascinating history of liquor laws in Utah.

IF YOU NEED TO DE-STRESS

Go to Heber Hatchets and let it out! My company recently held a corporate event here and it was a blast! We weren’t sure if axe throwing was, ummmm, the safest choice of activities but once reviewing the proper technique and rules with the staff we felt at ease. Bonus points if you wear flannel.

FOR UNTOUCHED TERRAIN AND AN EXTRA DOSE OF ADVENTURE

Pack your skins and skis or splitboard, food for the day, and emergency gear and head out to the Uintas. Rent or borrow a snowmobile and ride in via Mirror Lake Highway. The amazing backcountry terrain is yours for the taking. *ALWAYS* make sure to go with a buddy, tell friends and family where you are going, and take a GPS tracking device.

FOR AN EASY EVENING

Go to Midway for dinner at Midway Mercantile or Tarahumara and a tour around the Ice Castles. Midway feels like Switzerland but is a LOT closer and cheaper! Channel your inner Elsa, drink hot chocolate, pose for Instagram photos, and race down the ice slides. “The cold never bothered me anyway.”
