Park City Mountain Resort Opening Day Game Plan

Good news everyone! I’m writing this on November 4th and it’s SNOWING here in Park City which means, IT’S TIME TO BUY MY SEASON PASS (can you tell I’m excited?). The last day to purchase an Epic Pass is November 18th and Opening Day is right around the corner. If all goes according to plan and Mother Nature sticks to the schedule, Opening Day at PCMR will be November 21st at both the Park City base and Canyons base. Typically, there won’t be more than one or two lifts operating at each base are but regardless, the town is buzzing with excitement! Here is my opening day game plan.
I will be starting my celebrations around 7am November 20th (yes, the day before!) with a free coffee from Lucky Ones Coffee. Each year to welcome the ski season, Vail Corp sponsors “Wake Up Park City” with free coffee accompanied by a sweet souvenir mug at local coffee shops the day prior to opening day. Participating coffee shops include Atticus, Wasatch Bagel, Java Cow, Jupiter Java, Lucky Ones, PC Bread and Bagel, and Starbucks (both PC locations). Vail also donates $1 for every coffee collected to the Christian Center, our local charity organization.

On the 21st, I will make my way over to the Park City base area and meet up with friends around 8:30 am. There’s a competition every year to be first in line for first chair, but in order to win you need to camp out overnight. In the snow. So as mentioned, I plan to arrive at 8:30 am which is still plenty of time to get a good, earlybird, spot on the chairlift!

Don’t expect much terrain to be rideable opening day. At PCMR you can plan on Bonanza and PayDay laps and at Canyons you can ride Saddleback and High Mountain.  After a couple of hours you’ll probably be tired of taking the same lift on repeat. Head over to the corner store, meet the locals, and enjoy the band! The majority of the mountain will open up after a few more snow storms, usually the week of Christmas. However, despite the lack of available runs, the stoked vibe in the air makes it a fun day to be a skier/boarder in Park City. The entire town has been anticipating opening day for months and the air is buzzing!
