On the 21st, I will make my way over to the Park City base area and meet up with friends around 8:30 am. There’s a competition every year to be first in line for first chair, but in order to win you need to camp out overnight. In the snow. So as mentioned, I plan to arrive at 8:30 am which is still plenty of time to get a good, earlybird, spot on the chairlift!
Don’t expect much terrain to be rideable opening day. At PCMR you can plan on Bonanza and PayDay laps and at Canyons you can ride Saddleback and High Mountain. After a couple of hours you’ll probably be tired of taking the same lift on repeat. Head over to the corner store, meet the locals, and enjoy the band! The majority of the mountain will open up after a few more snow storms, usually the week of Christmas. However, despite the lack of available runs, the stoked vibe in the air makes it a fun day to be a skier/boarder in Park City. The entire town has been anticipating opening day for months and the air is buzzing!
